Joining the Read-a-thon for IT by Stephen King

Stephen King is my brothers favourite author, I don't know why I haven't picked them up to read.  I have only read the Tom Gordon one which wasn't what I expected so I'm going to join this Read-a-thon and experience the rush and hopefully the scare.

Below is from Anna's blog, Diary of an Eccentric .........

Despite my intense dislike for clowns — especially creepy looking ones — Serena somehow managed to convince me to read Stephen King’s IT.  Actually, she bought the book for me for Christmas and pretty much told me I HAD to read it with her.

Anyway, we decided to hold a read-a-long later this year, and we want to invite you all to join us.  The read-a-long will begin in August (we’ll post a reminder, so don’t worry!) and end in December.  The book has 5 parts, and we’ll be reading one part (plus the interlude following) each month.

Here’s the reading schedule:

Aug. 24 — discussion on part 1 to be held on Savvy Verse & Wit
Sept. 28 — discussion on part 2 to be held on Diary of an Eccentric
Oct. 31 — discussion on part 3 to be held on Savvy Verse & Wit
Nov. 30 — discussion on part 4 to be held on Diary of an Eccentric
Dec. 21 — discussion on part 5 to be held on Savvy Verse & Wit

We hope you will consider joining us!  You can bet I’ll do all of my reading of this book during the daylight hours.  Thanks, Monica, for the awesomely creepy button!

  1. I don't know what's scarier...the image you posted or the read-along button! Glad you'll be joining us and thanks for posting about it.

  2. Thanks so much for joining us. It is going to be creepy fun! I really was scared when I read this as a young kid -- though mind you I probably was too young to be reading this at the time. I'm hoping it continues to scare the second time around.

  4. ahhhh!! I remember seeing the movie version of this and I was so terrified! I really should read the book though - might be scarier! King is fantastic with sparking my wild imagination.

  5. This is the only SK's books I'd read I think! I read it after watching the TV movie... the TV movie scared me more for some reason... but the book had a lot more details / backstory that the 2 parts movie didn't have.

Gosh it must have been almost 20 years since I read it! Maybe 18 at least... don't think I'd re-read though just because I usually don't :)

    Have fun!

  8. If clowns didn't freak me out so much I'd join this. As it is, they do. Freak me out. I had to quickly scroll down because the pictures were scaring me.

    Um, have fun reading IT?

  10. Oooh Marce, starting with It! I saw the movie but didn't read the book, and it is pretty creepy. I love Stephen King, but for me, he is hit or miss. Some are way too gross or weird and I don't like them, others are great reading experiences! I would suggest checking out blurbs on his books if you want to read him further. Rae

  11. I JUST had sort of a nightmare last night that involved a clown LOL! Have fun with the read-a-long! Have you seen the movie? I've seen that but not read the book, but I'm going to be sort of a wuss right now and say I can't read it right now! Hehe

  12. Hmmm, sounds like fun! I read it in 9th grade and remember being super scared. I hated the clown in the made for tv movie. It terrified me. I never look down man holes anymore. shudder.

  13. What a great read-a-long! I wish I had seen this earlier. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is one of my least favorite Stephen King books. I'm sorry to hear you were introduced with that one. I hope you are loving IT.
